Hey.

Sorry if this is the wrong, please move it to the correct part of the board if it is.

Okay, here's the deal:

I've had my laptop for about a year, I've also had my mouse for it for the same amount of time, and last night it stopped working correctly, it was making that noise as if I'd removed it from the USB and the red light on it was turning off. I thought it was an error with the mouse so I bought a new one today, and that one's doing the exact same thing. They're different types of mice too, so it's nothing to do with that.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers.

Doe the touchpad function okay?

Are the external mice USB connected or wireless?

The touchpad is fine.

Both mice are/were connected to a USB slot, yes.

I thought it might be something to with the USB slot, but I'd have no idea what could be wrong with it as I've not changed or touched anything.

Did you try plugging one or both of the mice into a different USB port?

Have you at any time installed any additional Mouse software, that might have come with the external mice?

In Device Manager (right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager button), find "Mice and Other Pointing Devices". Open that category. What do you have installed?

Yeah, I've tried them in different USB ports.

Where is Device Manager?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I have "HID-compliant mouse" and "NX Pad" installed.

Right click over HID Compliant Mouse, choose uninstall. Reboot your laptop without an external mouse attached. Verify that the touchpad works. Shut down the laptop, attach one of the external mice, power up.

Did either of the external mice come with software?

Okay, I will do that just now.

And yes, they came with disks which I installed.

I have now done that.

The touchpad still works.

Yeah, they're working, but they have their turns if you get what I mean.

It's like, sometimes they work and when they don't work they make that noise when you attatch or detatch something from your USB ports.

Are there any kind of errors that pop up on-screen when the mice act up? Also, check the Event Log (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, check Application and System) for anything unusual or for anything with a red X/type "Error", around the time it happened last.

Well, it says on the toolbar bit at the bottom stuff like, "no hardware found", and "error with hardware" or something. It may not have been that, so don't quote me on it. :whistling:

As for that Control Panel thing, I really don't know what I'd be looking for.

It's still doing it. :whistling:

Every now and then my mouse cursor is just freezing and you can't move it, so you have to unplug and plug the mouse back in at the back.

It's really irritating and I've got no idea what to do about it...
