Computer Resolution Unchangable

well i just reinstalled windows XP on my other computer, but when i ran it.... the resolution was stuck on 800 by 600 pixels....i cant go pass it...and the colors are strange....the instructions the ms site told me wouldnt work becuase it wouldn't let me click Properties.....any way to fix this?

are you sure you have the right drivers for your display.

im pretty sure...it worked back then fine until we installed windows XP CD again and this happened...but how do u get the right drivers?

go to the site your computer was made by first and they should have downloadable graphics.

the computer is custom built....i dont know what type it is....it says U.S. Air Force at the front of the computer....

find out what kind of graphics card you have and go to there website, our if your graphics card came with a cd it will probably have drivers on it.

go to device manager: start>settings>control panel>system>hardware>device manager. click on your video card and hit ''delete''. reboot your machine and let windows find and install the correct driver for the card.

well i dont know what my video card is....welll i think its this one thing...but im ont sure.....is it....in the "Display Adaptors"....and "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE

the other computer doesnt have the tab "Display Adaptors"

the computer with the resolution problem doesnt have Geforce......

If you haven't already, run Windows Update.

When you are offered the link "Hardware, Optional" select that and check any/all and install. Depending on what Patch Level your Windows CD is, this may take several attempts.

Then continue to install any other updates.

and when i boot up the comp ...where the splash screen is...where it says Windows XP...and shows bars going horizontal....the resolution looks completely fine....and then it goes blank...and sort of blinks....and then the resolution is HUGE....and ugly...and the color is different....
