ipconfig.exe is not a valid win32 application

I tried to ipconfig my comp by doing a cmd and this pops up.

I can still acess the Internet and such but no IPconfig. I also run through a linksys WRT54GS version 6 router. I had a nasty bug and deleted it the other day but Im afraid It may have done some extensive damage. Any suggestions please? and thanks!

Download FIXPATH2.ZIP. Extract the files to a folder in C:\, like C:\FIXPATH2.

RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
  • Open a command prompt window (START-->RUN and type cmd and click OK), navigate to the location where the FIXPATH.EXE file is located, and run FIXPATH.EXE.
  • It will display some preliminary information, and ask if it should continue.
  • If it successfully updates the Path value in the registry, you will need to
    reboot for the change to take effect.
If you have any questions about what this is doing, then make sure you read the FIXPATH.TXT file that was included in the zip file you downloaded and should now be located in C:\FIXPATH2, or whatever folder you extracted it to.

did the FIXPATH2 and still get the ipconfig not a valid win32 app. It did fix a frameydll problem I had though lol. I guess I will try the winsockxp

Tried both these and still get this in command

ipconfig.exe is not a valid win32 application. Any other tips? thanks for previous.

My Brother said he went in and double clicked the ipconfig.exe icon in the system folder and a dos screen came up. That is when the problem started. Perhaps that will help? Thanks.

If you use search, including hidden and system files, how many ipconfig files are there?

there are 4

1 in C:\i386
1in C:\WINDOWS\System32
1in C:\Documents and setting\michael howell.dc77tc91
and this one..IPCONFIG.EXE-05D7908C.pf in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch

well I used Winsockxpfix.EXE and it fixed my ipconfig problem. Still wonder what happened to servicepackfiles folder could be why I can't do a system restore? anuhoo thanks for all the advice.

This will repair system restore, before that, does it say cannot restore any points, or just doesn't run?

1. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\inf and press enter

2. Locate the Sr.inf file, (listed as Sr), right-click the file, and then click Install.

3. In the Files Needed dialog box, click Browse. Locate the Sr.sy_ file in the i386 folder of the Windows XP CD, click the file, and then click Open.

4. When the installation is completed, restart your computer.

I have tried to restore to all my resore point options. it goes through the process but upon reboot it tells me unable to be restored to this point. it does that all the time.
