My machine will not reconize either of my cds. it sees the 3 1/2 floppy. I need to repair my operating system but I can't because I think I accidently deleted some files.
I get these two messages:
CAN'T LOCATE:
INF FILE C:\WINDOWS\INF\WPIE 4X8.INF
INF FILE C:\WINDOWS\INF\WMP10.INF

I'm using XP HOME

HELP would be most appreciated

Hi Paul in Minnesota...

Click Start then Run and type regedit...click "Ok"

In the left pane, expand (click +) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then Control, then Class, and click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

In the right pane, what is the value of (Default) under the Data column?

Also in the right pane, are UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters listed?

Double click on (Default) and type DVD/CD-ROM drives in the Value Data field...click "Ok".

Close Registry Editor and log off Windows (Start > Log Off)...log back onto Windows.

Are your cd drives now recognized?

Download the attached file and save it to your desktop. Right click on the downloaded file and choose "Extract All"...extract the file to your desktop. Then right click on the extracted file (cdgone.reg) and choose "Merge"...Accept the change.

Reboot.

How about now?
