Hi,

I am having a problem. I tried setting up my wireless network at my bosses home. He bought a linksys WRT54G. He is using Bellsouth modem Netopia. Well after setting up the network and following all the correct wires he could get out using ONLY the modem but NOT the router. So I tried playing with the router to see if I could get it to work with no help. After going online and researching I found that the firmware needed to be upgraded so I downloaded the correct fireware and it still did not work.

So I pulled up my sleeves and called customer support. After talking to two different people he tried many different thing to make the IP Address (192.168.1.3) and DNS (192.168.1.254) with no luck. So he tells me there is a problem and I need to call Bellsouth and tell them to release Breach Mode on the modem because it is conflicting with the routers settings.

I've tried looking this up and I can not find anything on what Breach Mode is. Can someone inform me please?

What you're looking for is Bridge mode.

Your netopia modem is actually a modem/router combination. It needs to be told to act as a modem only (bridge mode) before you can add a wireless router to the network.

thank you. The person was foreign and I had trouble understanding him.

Bellsouth has to change that? There is no way I can change that?

You call Bellsouth and they will walk you through what you need to do to Bridge the modem.

They will have you surf into the modem at 192.168.1.254. once there you enter "expert mode", click on "configure", then "connection", change the Protocol from PPPoe to "bridged ethernet". Click "save changes and restart connection". Let the modem finish restarting and you are in Bridged Mode. Now set the router up to do the PPPoE.
