log in log off problems

Hi everyone im pretty new to this thread but i have a question regarding logging in and off on XP. I've got a brand new dell dimension with XP media center edition or whatever and i'd expect it to run very smooth since its brand new. The problem is every once in awhile i'll have issues where i'll click the log off button but my computer wont log off. Or if my computer is in standby mode and i'll come back to it and hit like the spacebar or something to get back on, but the screen will just stay black and i'll have to restart. Its not really that big of a deal but since my computer is not even two weeks old im a little concerned. Anyone know why this happens?
