I have got a new laptop for Christmas, which I think is very good except one massive problem which should be simply solved, but is not. On most laptops you can disable touchpad tapping for a left click function, I do not like this and find I accidenally click things when typing, or even draging icons when moving the pointer around.

This laptop does not run on the Synaptics pointing device drivers and is not a Synaptics mouse. How can I overcome this incredibly annoying problem, I just need to be able 2 disable tapping - I have on my previous laptop which had a synaptics device but I am unable to on this one.

I know it is Christmas day but I'd like to sort this program A.S.A.P.

I've had the thing upgraded, the mouse just appears as a "Microsoft PS/2 Mouse". Despite it not being the Synaptic hardware I decided to give them drivers a go, to see if thier "tapping" utility was there to disable it on my mouse - the "tapping" menu wasn't even there. It's now back as it came, and trying to figure out a way to disable this.

Go to control panel and open the mouse control click on the hardware tab
is there only the ps2 mouse showing.

Yes, only ONE Microsoft PS/2 mouse appears, and I do not have an external one plugged in.



EDIT: There are also no drivers on Windows Update for the mouse itself..

in control panel run the add new hardware wizard in control panel.
It will do a search and then ask if you have added the hardware, say yes this will then give a list of items. Can you see synaptics in the list?.
What I am hopping is it will show up and we can then add it. On the laptops I have set up it ask at set up time if you wish to install synaptics. So i am hoping it is there and we just have to enable it. Do you have the original disk.

No, it did not produce a Synaptics device. I do have the original disk, but the system is practically untouched, I recieved it Christmas Day with all software installed.

Have you tried installing it off the disk?
Sometime when you install off a disk it will uninstall the previous drivers and software.

It is a brand new laptop. Everything is system defaults. The actual mouse itself is a microsoft defice, meaning I have no options to turn off tapping. I have tried reinstalling off of the CD but they are default ps/2 mouse drivers. Can you please read all posts before posting please, sorry but saying that is absolutely no help.

The best way to find the model and series of a laptop is to look at all the numbers on the underside of the laptop, I think this is yours have a look at the website.

I will give this a go now. I'm suprised I didn't think of this - it is actually an MSI laptop, I think CyberPower just rebrand it and play around with it.
