Hi,

I am very in-experienced when it comes to routers / networking etc.

A program I wish to use requires me to open Port 6001.

I have a Belkin F5D7230-4 Gateway wireless router. This router has a firewall. When I log into the Router thru Internet explorer,I go into the "Virtual Servers" section.... I have no idea what to put here, to open my port.

I have an Inbound Port, Type, Private IP address, Private Port, Description and Enable area's to fill in.... can anyone here help me?

Thanks,
UKCamaroSS

Inbound Port = 6001
Type = check with the program about whether it needs TCP, UDP or both
Private IP address = your network IP, go to START->RUN and type cmd and click OK. In the new window type ipconfig and hit ENTER. The numbers next to the IP ADDRESS listed is your network IP. It should start with 192.168.x.x
Private Port = 6001
Description = Name of program here
Enable = check this box to enable it.

Click SAVE SETTINGS or APPLY SETTINGS or something similar on the webpage and you are set.

Hi Fenor,

Thank you very much... I have just followed your reply and it worked.

One question though... what is the difference between TCP and UDP?

Thanks again,
