im helping grand dad out here. ive upgraded to windows xp pro from 98se thing went well untill i tried to open in safemode. computer wouldnt boot at all. ive tried to reinstall windows , but now i get stop with a popup saying windows setup cant run in safemode. ne 1 got any ideas here? how do i get out of this safemode loop? cant get to disktop

shut down your computer and turn it back on

tap f1 immediately and when you get to the bios screen

use your keyboard and navigate your wat to do a boot with your xp cd

click enter save then f10 exit save settings and try to do a boot up with cd

it boots with cd all right but it goes back into cd setup ive gottin to recovery console to try to fix this but its not doing any good. ran fixboot and fixmbr still reboots to safemode. i cant complete the reinstall of windows intill i get off safe mode :whistling:

it goes straight to safemode

you dont get any options at all

you dont get window that allows you to open windows xp and below thatone says start windows

and that would allow you to go back to windows 98

ill leave it at that if all else fails get a new hard drive and do a fresh install of windows

obviously windows is busted

just get the same amount of gigabytes

ive not tried to reformat yet i think that may work just didnt want to if i dont have to
update here

i did a clean install of windows to fix this seems to be working ok now just wish i knew why i was stuck in that loop
