open applications not showing up in taskbar

I can not figure out why, but whenever I open an application nothing shows up in the bottom taskbar, and when I minimize a window it just disappears unless I use alt-tab. Is there any way to fix this? My taskbar properties for taskbar appearance are set to:
everything checked except auto-hide the taskbar.

Please let me know what I can do to fix this problem! :whistling:

open TaskManager, go to File, down to New Task and type in explorer.exe, hit o.k. any difference?

nope, just opens up windows explorer but there's still nothing in the taskbar.
