Hello

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please download and install these programs - don't run them yet!!

Please download and unzip
About:Buster to a folder. Inside the folder is a readme file that has instructions on the use of the program.
AboutBuster MUST be updated before you use it.
Start AboutBuster, click the update button, check for update, drag the box to the side and hit download updates, close the box . Don't run it yet.

Please download and install AD-Aware.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

Download and unzip cwsserviceremove to your desktop. use either link below:
http://computercops....ownload&id=3002
http://www.mytechsup...rviceremove.zip

Download CW-Shredder at the link below:
http://cwshredder.ne.../CWShredder.exe

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

For anyone using Windows XP, 'Search' will not automatically show hidden files even if your folder options settings are set to do that. Do this so you can see hidden files and folders - click here http://www.davehigha...ds/xphidden.zip to download xphidden.zip. Extract xphidden.reg from the zip file and save it to the desktop. When done, double-click the xphidden.reg and when asked to merge say yes.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Here's the fix:

Important Step
1. Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:

Network Security Service

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you dont find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

2. Reboot into SafeMode. <---MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO DO THIS!!

3. CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND BROWSERS Scan with Hijack This and put checks next to all the following, then click "Fix Checked"

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\nebjq.dll/sp.html#96676

O23 - Service: Network Security Service ( 11F#`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\appas.exe (file missing)

4. Delete the following files if present:
If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

C:\WINDOWS\appas.exe << This file
C:\WINDOWS\sysqj32.exe << This file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\atlpx32.exe << This file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysge32.dll << This file
C:\WINDOWS\nebjq.dll << This file

5. Run AboutBuster . This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them. Save the report (copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with all the steps.

6. Scan with AdAware and let it remove any bad files found.

7. Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

8. Double click on the cwsserviceremove and when asked to merge say yes.

9. Run CW-Shredder - Hit the FIX button - let it run and fix what it finds.

10. Reboot into normal mode.

11. Download the Hoster from here http://members.aol.c...bee/hoster.zip. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

12. Download and run this online virus scan:
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Make sure you check "AutoClean"

then reboot and post a fresh Hijack This log to see how we did.

If I already have ad-aware do I need to uninstall & download again? Had problem with cwshredder when I ran it before the hijack log, should I re-do this too?
Was unable to run housecall.trendmicro virus scan also before hijack this log.

yeah, if you obviously have the program already, you don't have to install it again, and just redo the stuff.

Hello

I've been able to download About:Buster to my desktop however I either can't unzip it or it won't run I'm not sure which. I haven't previously had to unzip any files so I may be doing something wrong. I used winzip 9.0 when I try to open the downloaded file my computer locks up and I have to reboot. I'm having the same problem with the other zip files listed in the previous instructions.

Also when I tried to open Windows Explorer I get the "Dr. Watson" popup then the computer locks up and I have to reboot.

PLS help, Thanks

Hello, you are supposed to obviously download them in normal mode. You don't open them yet though. You have to go into safe mode as the instructions say to run them in this case!

Hello again, sorry it took so long

I was able to do most of what you wanted however AboutBuster wouldn't run. I got a message telling me that the file was corrupted. I might be able to uninstall and download again my computer is running much better than it was.

The housecall.trendmicro virus scan wouldn't run on my browser. I could download netscape and try that one again if want me to.

Here is the new Hijack This log.

The infection is gone!!

Everything looks great --- your HijackThis log is completely clean. ;)
Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

1) Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

IE-SPYAD
A tutorial on using IE-SPYAD to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here

Keeping these programs up-to-date and running them regularly can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.
[OR]
I notice that you do not seem to be running antivirus software. This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world. AVG makes an excellent free antivirus client; it may be downloaded here. Please make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. :tazz:

Hello,

I had the Dr Watson problem and cleaned a bunch of stuff off my computer a few days ago following a series of instructions. Afterward everything looks clean however my browsers are very slow. ESPN's web page used to take 5-10 seconds now takes a couple of minutes for example. It doesn't matter which browser I use ( IE or Firefox), the results are the same. Everything else seems normal.

Could I still have a virus or malware or did I accidently change some settings. I have Verizon DSL .

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Doesn't seem like a huge deal. Are you still experiencing that? You can post a new hijackthis log if you want.

Your log is clean. Just Visual IP InSight is known to consume a lot of system rescources, you can go into add/remove programs and uninstall it.
