Webcam / sound problems

I just hooked up a webcam and used it in IM.....when the video session is on, there is no sound. for me or my " buddy "...also when I click out of IM, I still get static noise thru my speakers...is this because I have a webcam hooked up??

I never had the static noise before the wecam was hooked up??
