lets see if I understand this, you have a HP with a 80G hd with lots of data on it, and for some reason you changed the motherboard? And now you are having trouble booting, says boot error and it goes int a loop, constantly rebooting? Do you have a bootable CD, such as a complete XP disk you can boot to to check things out, such as getting into the bios etc?

if you did install a new motherboard you will need to run a repair on windows xp. The drivers and settings for you other board are still there. The hard drive controller is most likley diffrent and wont work untill you run a repair.
Put your Xp disk in let it do its thing. Hit enter at the first screen and then "R" at the second screen. Once installed you will need to reactivate you windows XP becasue microsoft requires this on a hardware change. try to activate it and if it wont call microsoft and tell them " THIS IS A NEW INSTALL" dont let them tell you any diffrent. They cant tell who or where it is activated from so keep telling them " IT IS A NEW INSTALL i just bought the windows XP" dont tell you you are reinstalling becasue they will tell you that you have to buy another copy. And if they do tell you no... hang up and call again you will get another person that will eventually do it for you. REMEMBER just keep the story IT IS A BRAND NEW INSTALL....
