Not sure whats happening with IE. We're almost done here so you may have to post in the Web Browsers and Email section of the forum after.

We can disable a few things to see if it speeds up a little:

Re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RealTray] C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe SYSTEMBOOTHIDEPLAYER
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\isuspm.exe" -startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start

Now close all windows and browsers other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.
Close hijackthis.

1. Download ComboFix.exe using either of these links:
BleepingComputer
Techsupportforum.com
2. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts to allow the tool to run.
3. When it has finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log & a fresh HJT log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Hi

It only seems slow on the first time - like I said it is as if there is something running in the background for a long time on boot up - odd. I looked at msconfig and there is an awful lot of stuff on there it boots up with, I am sure it doesn't need to? Unless it is also always virus scanning?

Here is the Combofix log

We can disable few more items:

re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxtray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [swg] C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\1.2.908.8472\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe

Now close all windows and browsers other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.
Close HJT.

Can you tell me what this folder is or what is in it:

C:\WINDOWS\pss

It looks like it was just created.

Okay so we're done - great?

Firstly, I don't really know where to begin with thanks but if there is some way I can donate money please point me in that direction.

Secondly, what was it all about - what is mAniman, and what is netframe etc?

Thanks so much - I am going to post your website on my Pilot's forum (where most of my PC technical support has come from previously).

Best wishes and in the nicest possible way I hope I don't have to post here again but.........

There is one last thing to do and you're all set.

-------------------

Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type "regedit" without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP. Export the file to your Desktop.

Now, launch Notepad, and copy/paste everything in the codebox below into the new document, including the word REGEDIT4. Go up to "File Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files" and save it to your desktop as fix.reg.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\securityproviders]
"SecurityProviders"="msapsspc.dll, schannel.dll, digest.dll, msnsspc.dll"

Locate fix.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer Yes and wait for a message to appear similar to Merged Successfully.

Reboot your computer.

Edit: And the link you posted above --- a post you made -- I'm a girl :whistling:

Okay - have done that now.

It all seems to be working reasonably well now - a bit slow in places but maybe it's a crap PC!

Thanks so much for your help - can you answer my other questions please?

You're Welcome

See the following links about donations:

What you were experiencing were symptoms of a trojan. You can read more about the trojan here:

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
* CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Hello

Slight problem in that it won't allow me to uncheck system restore telling me it cannot disable one of more drives?

Any ideas?
