I'm experiencing lots of troubles. Not sure if it's malware or just a corrupted system. Removed as much as I could with Ad-Aware and Spybot, but PandaScan still finds 10 other spyware and rootkit files. However, I seem unable to save the PandaScan reports as my system keeps freezing up, and randomly initiates an automatic shutdown. It also sometimes doesn't recognize the CD drive, and sometime will not open executable programs. Norton identified win32.trojan.downloader.agent, w32.kelvir, backdoor.trojan, and trojan.busky, but I think PandaScan disinfected these. I've also been seeing Smitfraud-C, Webenhancer, CoolWWWsearch, and others. I'm at the point where I think I need to reformat the computer, but I thought I'd send you a HijackThis log to see if you think it might be salvageable. I appreciate your feedback.

Happy New Year.

Thanks for the advice. I ran the 2 programs, and they detected 114 threats! (When Spybot and Ad-Aware said I was clean). However, I'm still having shutdown issues. I have to force a hard shutdown by holding the power button, and after 5-10 minutes of using the computer it initiates an automatic shutdown (which I abort with the command prompt). I am supicious that my system is corrupted, but I would be happy to learn that it was being caused by treatable malware.

Here are my logs:

On second thought, it seems like the computer is running better than before...

I ran PandaScan, and I enclose that report for your review.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4666FB8A-343F-36CA-6D09-4831C4C9F8BB} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hfyh.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BDAD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - (no file)

Exit HijackThis when done. Reboot, using Windows Explorer, find and delete the following:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\{BCD2EB5A-0AE9-1033-1008-050412200002} <-- folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\unsvchosts.exe

Exit Explorer. Click here to download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder and doubleclick on sss.exe. Check the boxes under the 'Items to Clear' tab and click 'Clear Selected Items'. You will be prompted to reboot, do so.

Rescan with HijackThis and post a new log here.

As requested. Here's my new log. Since I've installed AVG, I'm going to uninstall Norton Antivirus now as it obviously didn't hold up.

Thanks,
Trent

Your AVG is an anti-spyware NOT an anti-virus, don't mix them up. If your Norton is paid for and up to date leave it alone. If not get back to me.

Sorry. My Norton is a corporate version, which allows free updates. I can leave it if you suggest so.

Ok, I'll run both AVG and Norton. The computer seems to be running good now, with no recent shutdown attempts. Thanks for all the help.

You're welcome - glad to help :whistling:

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Reopened at user request.

Download and save blacklight to your desktop. Doubleclick blbeta.exe, accept the agreement, click scan > next.

You'll see a list of all the items it found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (where xxxxxxx represents numbers). The application finds both bad files and legitimate ones. Copy and paste the log it generated in your next reply. Also do this:

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Hi again,

For those reading this forum, I requested to reopen my topic because my computer still seems to be shutting itself down intermittently. A window pops up indicating that the system will shut down in 60 seconds, and states "Initiated by NT Authority\system C:\WINDOWS\system32\service.exe code 1073741819".

I have enclosed the 2 logs as requested. ComboFix found some items, but Backlight said I was clean. I was doing some google searching last night using the above mentioned error code, and there seem to be references to my problem being caused by the Sasser Worm. I used Windows Update to install the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool KB890830, which claims to deal with Sasser, but it didn't seem to do anything special so far.

I'll need more time to tell you whether or not the shutdowns are still occuring, as they occur intermittently.

Thanks,
Trent

Interesting, Blacklight came back clean but those big red letters in combofix need further investigation. Please download: AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta: http://www.softpedia...load-48738.html and save it to your desktop.

Double click the file to install it. Accept the licence and follow the prompts to install and reboot. After rebooting, you should see the icon for AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta on your desktop. Double click it to open the programme. You will see a window with 4 buttons at the bottom of it. Click Search For Rootkits and the programme will start a scan, you will see the progress bar moving from left to right. When the scan is complete, a small window will open alerting you to the result. If anything was found, click Save Result To File and post that in your reply.

If nothing was found, please click the Perform in-depth Search saving anything found to file as before.
