Yesterday, I was trying to forward an email when Outlook went berzerk. I went to the Task Manager and found that 100% of the CPU usage was being used. I have had this problem before and it seems that more than one MS Word application is running in the background taking up all of the resources even though Word should only be open in the background as the email editor.

I looked at the processes and Winword.exe was the only process that was running. So.... I ended the process thinking that that would shut down Word.

Now when I try to open Outlook, nothing happens. When I go to Task Manager, it says that Outlook is not responding.

Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Open Word, click help, click detect and repair, tick restore shortcuts, run the repair

One thing I'd add to that: once you get Outlook functioning again, change the default email editor back to Outlook. In Outlook, go to Tools, Options, Mail Format, and uncheck both of the item items for Word.

Thanks Keith and LindaGail!

I made your suggested repairs. Outlook initially took a long time to open but it seems to be working fine now!
