I am contemplating buying Windows Vista next year when it comes out. Is it worth jumping on the bandwagon, or should I wait? Also, I am in the process of building a computer so I will have 2 computers going. Am I able to install Vista on both machines and use the same key? Or would I have to purchase the business/professional version(s)?

It seems the more microsoft adds to their operating system the more problems it has. I really don't know if XP is a lot better than win 98SE*Guest because it seems we just traded one kind of problems for a different kind of problems. A little bit faster, yes, and a little bit easier, maybe, but XP still seems to generate a lot of problems causing People like Blair to startup forums so people can try fixing them. It's funny how with Win 98 i would wipe the drive and reinstall when i installed too many programs, or just experimented the system to death. Now when i experiment with XP i still do the same thing. The difference is that i now have to make my own recovery CD's to reinstall XP on the same computer that it was already installed on. I wonder what some people are going to do when XP is no longer supported by Microsoft. I hope by then the linux community has a OS that is equal to Windows.

I do not see where Vista is a major improvement over XP. I guess we shall see over a period of time. I am of the type that i will wait until Service Pack 1 comes out for Vista before i will install it on a new computer. There WILLl be a service pack 1 since Microsoft always lets the customers find the problems with the system. The MAJOR problems will be attended to with SP1 for VISTA.

In the mean time i have got XP down pretty pat, so i will continue to use it until i find Vista to be better. I will build a Vista computer and use it when possible but i will still have 3 or 4 XP puters to use.

Microsoft has never ever let people install the OS on 2 computers with the same registration key. You will have to buy a second license to put on a second computer. You can have the same version of the OS on both computers.

Heres the different versions.

More than likely the home premium version will prevail since it has AERO.

It all depends on what you intend on using your computer for. If you use it for gaming, then upgrading is not a matter of if but when. With DX10 coming out, you'll be forced to upgrade to play new games. But we'll probably see reversible compatibility with the DX 9 and 10 for a full year after vista's release, but you'll also need high end hardware for this feature.

It really depends on who you talk to, whether they'll upgrade now or later, eventually we'll all need to upgrade. For me, I'll be doing it 1 month after it comes out, reason, i love new technology, something to brag/fool around with before others get the chance and I'm gone the date it is released till 3 weeks later :whistling:.

I personally don't do the beta test, as i need a reliable computer for the work i do, can't afford to lose some work. But from what I have read, its supposed to be a significant upgrade from XP, it's compared in many articles i have read to the transfer of dos to windows 95. Wether it will be or not we won't know till it is released as i'm sure microsoft has yet to announce a few things. I'd suggest that if you don't want to fool around and have problems to wait like SRX660 has said till at least 3-4 months have gone by or SP1 has come out. Whatever comes first. By then all the major bugs should have been fixed.

As for the versions of vista, the premium is a no brainer, and for the people with lots of money to burn go for ultimate, but for me, premium will to me well. I'm getting third party software to do my photo/video editing, as it always comes on top. Home will be more or less a small upgrade from XP.

Thanks guys. I don't really use my comp for gaming. Mainly web browsing, e-mail, AIM/MSN. Stuff like that. Nothing too strenuous. I too was thinking of just waiting until SP1 comes out for Vista, THEN doing the upgrade. I was contemplating on getting Vista when it first came out because I'm tired of the bubble reminding me I do not have a "genuine copy" of Windows. I know, I know... it's bad. But hey, if I can get away with it... why not, ya know? :whistling:
