I am look at buying a used computer from my neighbor but he cannot find the 7 or 8 recovery cds. The hard drive is partitioned with the recovery info in the D: portion of it. Is there a way to make another copy? I would like to keep the legal copy of XP or is there another way format and put XP back on the computer.

You can get a new hard drive, any of the major brands comes with installation software, and make a drive to drive copy of your old hard drive to the new one. The new one can be quite a bit larger than the old one, but not smaller. This is a simple, fairly inexpensive way to back up your system in cases where you don't have the installation disks. The safest course is to put one disk away so that a power surge or other problem won't damage both disks.

the hp i own can make as many recovery sets as it wants

instead of a reformat can you dou a system recovery not a restore but a recovery

this can be found in all programs with pc help and tools

you should see system recovery

if that dont work you need a xp cd with product key to do a reformat

If none of these options are suitable

http://h10025.www1.h...;product=299510

Use Live Chat here to ask for a list of options

http://ipgweb.cce.hp...t...ng=en&cc=us

An advantage of using Live Chat services is that they usually stick with it until it is resolved as they are too embarrassed to say they cannot fix it
