Have you gone to Windows Update yet? If not go there and choose CUSTOM scan and then when the scan is complete, look under HARDWARE (OPTIONAL) and see if anything is listed there. Post back with what updates are available.

Actually, good news. We got it to work. Somewhere we read that gateway is known for this (like you said) and that we could use the drivers for the model below the mx7120. Low and behold, it worked. So that was really good!

Thank you though so much for your help. Appreciate it.

algeriano, I was in the same boat as you and brettxw.

What brettxw was saying is to go to the gateway support site, click on browse all downloads, and put in all of the specs of your computer into the drop down menus. However, when it comes to the part where you put in your laptop model, put in MX7118 instead of MX7120. Then search for the sound and modem and use those.

I just did this, and it works!

Hello. I hate to bump this topic, but I'm in desperate need of installing a sound driver onto my laptop.

I have a Gateway Laptop that is a model MX7120. I read through this topic and tried getting it to work, but it was no go. I even tried using the MX7118 model number and use the sound driver on there. When I tried installing it, it also said that the driver could not support my laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
