IE Keeps Freezing Up

Good morning! I'm having trouble with my IE freezing up. I had IE version 6 when it started freezing up and thought by upgrading to IE 7 that it would fix the problem. I noticed that when IE freezes up, if I open a new IE webpage up, the first one will automatically continue operating as normal. I do use Mozilla Firefox and this problem never occurs. I realize that I could just stay with Mozilla, but my concern is that my computer may be infected somehow. Please help me with correcting this problem. Thanks!
