Please help me. I am in school online and something is terribly wrong with my cpu. I have a 2 month old hp laptop and ever since bestbuy set up wireless networking it has not been working right.

I originally posted in Malware but the staff suggested it was just a networking problem.. Pheww.. I still need help though, thanks!

-Laptop and Desktop say a network cable is unplugged
- desktop is directly connected to router, but cannot detect it and has no internet connection
-laptop has a sketchy internet connection
- NVIDIA Controller driver is not working properly. I unistalled and tried to reinstall, everytime I try to reinstall it my screen goes completely blue with white DOS like lettering saying it has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. It also says it is dumping yes DUMPING my unsaved data.
-I swear there are files missing from my computer

Wow dude, sounds like you completely screwed that thing up....

Well some useful tips:
-buy WinXP Pro or Vista(makes life a breeze)
-reinstall your copy of WinXP(needs to be done every few months anyways)
-learn how to clone harddrives(google it)
-Use Avast(its free y not use it) not Norton
-if having network unplugged issues then unplug router power for about 10 seconds then replug power back in(this allows it to reconfigure itself)
-setup a home network

also check my sig for a huge amount of information and download files

In a nutshell that's what i would do, I'm sorry can't help ya out anymore, but its my bedtime.. :whistling:

Hi Taylor,

When BestBuy setup your Wireless network, did they implement any form of security, (ie: WEP or WPA)? The fact that the issues started occuring after they installed wireless, and added to the fact that you feel you're missing files, would suggest to me that there may be a malicous user connecting to your network or "leeching" off of your connection.

You can check if you have Encryption setup by connecting to your router's web-console -- you should then look for a "Wireless" or "Security" tab, or something along those lines. One of these tabs will generally provide your "Security Mode" in the form of a drop-down box. Just look for keywords like "WEP" and "WPA".

You state that you feel some files are missing; are these files located in drives / folders which are "Shared"? If not, what type of files are going missing?

As to your desktop, was it ever able to connect to the router/Internet, since BestBuy setup the wireless?
