Hi

I am using IE6 and have a rather annoying problem. When trying to access www.bbc.co.uk i.e. I tupe this directly into the address bar with no http:// the page won't come up but when I type the full url including http:// it does. This doesnt happen with any other site.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Look at this link for a couple of registry settings and a setting in Internet Options: http://groups.google...8199a4ebcb461c1

Did this help?

If not, do you get an error or does IE just sit there?

How long has this problem been there?

Is the Dell page your default home page? Try chaning it, then typing the web address. Does it go to your new home page?

Clear temporary internet files. Open IE, click the Tools menu, Internet Options, Delete Files.

Do you have antivirus and antispyware software? Are they current and have you run a full scan lately?

no it's not my homepagae, just the default page that displays when a url is typed incorrectly.

all antivirus and spyware is up to date and I jut did a scan last night so no issues there.

I know you don't think it's related to autocomplete, but please clear autocomplete and see if it still happens.

Also, when the default dell page comes up, is there a different address in the address bar or still the bbc address?

Watch the icons at the bottom right of the IE window as you try to go to the bbc site (without http:) versus when you do use the full address. Is there anything odd about the icons? What about the text that shows up at the bottom left (..opening page...)?

How long has this been happening? Can you try a System Restore back to a day prior?

i've cleared autocomplete and that hasnt solved the problem.

it has been happening evers since I got my new pc 2 months ago.

the adress that comes up in the bottom left corner immediately I hit return (using www.bc.co.uk) is http://www.google.co...amp;ibd=6061116 which is the default home page for IE.
