Hello there -

I just got a brand new computer, and one of the first things I did was follow the instructions here to add firewalls and various other protections. Everything appears to be working fine, except it seems that I can't change my Explorer homepage from the one that was set when I first got my computer (which is my computer store's page). When I contacted the store, they said it was likely to do with the protections installed. I wouldn't even know where to go to address that. In addition, it also seems that Windows Messenger won't let me change the option to automatically load when I open Windows/Outlook Express - I don't want my contacts to necessarily know I'm around, when I'm around you know... :whistling: Any ideas what to do?

You can always use MSN messenger, and disable windows messenger from the add/remove windows components in the the control panel.

MSN messenger, and maybe windows messenger can be controlled through startup items in msconfig. See this thread, tweak #20 http://www.geekstogo...ion-t64386.html

As far as the homepage. did you try the tools/internet options in IE7?

Hi,

What security software are you running? Many security suites lock the homepage. When you try to change the homepage watch for a prompt from the security suite to allow the change.

Windows Messenger can be removed from your pc if you don't use it or disabled from starting with OE. Go to "Options" under "Tools" and disable the start up feature. To remove Windows Messenger go to start / control panel /add or remove programs. Click "Add or Remove Windows Components" and uncheck Windows Messenger click next.
