i have a problem. i installed my cpu (p4 530j) into my asus motherboard. but the fan heatsink wouldnt install right. i couldnt get the last one to click. so i took off the whole heatsink and when i looked at the bottom part of the thermal material was torn off and that torn off part was on the cpu. i put the fan back on but what about the thermal material? will my cpu get damaged if i continue to build since i messed up wit it. i dont want to go on if there is a chance that the cpu can fry.

Hi,

I can not be sure with out looking at it so to be on the safe side remove the thermal pad by gently scraping it with a piece of crdit card then use isopropyl alcohol to clean up what remains as best you can.

Get some artic silver5 thermal paste and install the hsf by following the instructions on the artic silver website.
