Hi! Thanks for reviewing my post.

Issue: I have AOL I.M. to run at start-up, I noticed last night that I.M. did not start up right away, so I clicked on the I.M. icon in my quick launch menu. Nothing happened, so I clicked again. Still nothing happened... I hit CTRL-ALT-DLT and had 3 instances running. After ended all 3 I.M.s, Explorer and Outlook would not run (both programs seemed to get hung up).

I have uninstalled and installed I.M. twice and that did not correct the problem. Explorer and Outlook work fine IF I do not try and use I.M., however once I click on I.M. it appears to do nothing (although it appears on the "Close Program" list) and Explorer and Outlook become inoperable until I reboot again. Rebooting also is an issue as "shut down" never completely shuts down and I have to manually turn off the PC. It is probably time for a new PC!!!

Anyway, while looking for answers on the Intranet, I came across your site and was wondering if you might be able to help. I am attaching my hijackthis log. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Bryan

P.S. - I use ZoneAlarm for Internet security, Ancestry.com for genealogy research, and smart card reader for personal use.

I don't see anything too suspicious in HijackThis, did you run it in Safe Mode?

Also, are you using Windows 98 (if so, what edition) or ME?

It might just be time for a reformat or an upgrade, list of some specs if you would of the machine itself.

I think you're right. It's a no-name PC that a friend built a couple of years ago. It has an AMD-K6 3D processor, 120 MB of RAM, not to mention an older version of Windows. It still functions for what I need it to do now, but I do want to start doing more things that this PC is really too limited to do. I can get by with running gaim for now. Probably get a new PC very soon.

Thanks again for your input!
