Hi Jiff,
I hope that your family emergency has resolved itself in a good manner. I know how troubling they can be: in November, I underwent brain surgery to remove an "acoustic neuroma" tumor, but am doing well now.
I read your exchanges with Heather and was wondering if you can help me with a similar iTunes problem. I had been able to purchase and download songs and video from iTunes until 4/1/10. From that point on, everytime I try to do that, I get the following message: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again."
I am using a Toshiba laptop bought last August. It uses Windows Vista, has an excellent wireless signal from my modem, and - as you can see - can connect everywhere else online. I have spent hours - literally - trying one thing after another, including Apple's non-support phone and e-mail contacts. I guess the bigger the company, the less they care about customer service.
I have turned off the Windows firewall in case it was conflicting with my Panda security system's firewall, but it didn't help either, and it hadn't been a problem prior to 4/1.
Can you please help me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. SonyCiccone :) :)

I had faced the same issue I had Itunes installed in my computer (win Vista). Everything was working fine I was able to connect to Itunes store and download music etc. But after I uninstalled Symantec AV I noticed I couldn't connect to Itunes store. I tried everything, Upgraded itunes to the latest version, changed hostfile entry, added exception in windows firewall, turned off firewall, made changes to parent control enabled/disabled allow access to itunes U. But still found no fix I kept getting the same error.

Finally I thought I would try this. I figured this is to do something with the user profile to test this I created a new profile (user account in windows). I give this account admin rights launched itunes. As expected everything is working fine. I recently brought Iphone wanted to register so this is a quick fix to get staretd. I switch between the two user accounts to transfer music and download music.

I hope this helps !

I have iTunes installed, and each time I try to connect to the iTunes store i recieve the message:

iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection was refused.

Make sure your network settings are correct and your network settings are active, then try again.

I have tried EVERYTHING suggested by iTunes support and Microsoft support. Any help would be very appreciated.

I had the same problem and it actually had to do with the Internet Explorer settings. This should fix the problem. You have to reset your Internet Explorer settings.
1.Open Internet Explorer
2.Click the "Tools" Tab
3.Click "Internet Options"
4.Click the "Advanced" Tab
5.Click "Reset"
6.Lastly Click "OK"
Now you can close the Internet Explorer and you should have no problem logging onto the Istore!

THIS WORKS!!!!!!!

iTunes uses windows internet connection options.

Open Internet Explorer
Select "Tools" menu "Internet Options" item
Select "Connections" Tab and click the "LAN Settings" button
Uncheck "Use a proxy server for your LAN"

I have the same problem. Tried everything, disabled all firewalls and changed the LAN settings and all recommended things on the internet and still getting the same issue. (err=8007) when downloading apps off of iTunes. I've reinstalled it and everything and now just very frustrated with it, especially as apple support seems to have no suggestions. Above are the results of the diagnostic test, which tells me that a 'Secure link to the itunes store failed' and when items get partly through downloading and fail, the message 'Could not connect to the server to download [app] Please check the status of your Internet connection in your web browser' and it is connected. HELP please!!
