Hi all, I have a different problem, but with the same results "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection has timed out".

When I have run the diagnostic, it says that I have successful connection to the itunes store and apple website access. However, if I try to access the iTunes store, I keep getting the above message. Also, I am unable to access any of the itunes or apple support facilities or forums as I am unable to access the apple web-site either. In itunes, I am able to play my music, and subscribed podcasts are still updating and downloading, it is just access to the store and my account I am unable to get. I do not have Norton anti-virus, which I believe can be a cause.

In internet explorer, if I do a google search on "apple", a list of websites comes up with either a symbol of a tick (AVG safe - This page contains no active threats) , or a question mark (Unknown - AGV Search-Shield was unable to scan this page). Any website relating to Apple computers has the question mark and is unable to be opened up. However, if I go into "Wikipedia - Apple Inc" I can access information about the Apple company, but any links to the Apple website fail with "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page". This is frustrating when I can not even get on to apple to complain!

Last successfully purchased from iTunes store about a week ago, since then have not been able to connect any more. My ISP is bigpond.net (Australian Telstra) and the time on the computer is correct. Have switched firewall on and off, uninstalled and re-installed iTunes (but not through apple, obviously). Since then, have only installed Windows updates, and sp3. Any ideas ???

I am also getting this same error message. I am running v7 on Vista. I have done everything suggested on apple's website, and also on the previous posts here, but nothing will work. I used to be able to use the itunes store fine on this computer, and I haven't done anything different to it. I'm using Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007 and did put an exception in the firewall for itunes. Windows firewall is also off. This is so frustrating. Please help!!

We figured out a way to get around this latest set of errors, for Vista users.

Go to itunes. By default, it installs to c:\program files\itunes. (the shortcut link will not work).

Right click on the file, and go to properties.

Click on the compatiblity tab.

Click on the checkbox for run this program in compatiblity mode for:. By default it will go to Windows XP (Service Pack 2). That is fine.

Click ok, and then run Itunes. That allowed us to access the Itunes store.

Hey Jiff,

I was wondering if you could help me, since you seem to be so knowledgeable about these things...

I'm having trouble buying things from the iTunes store. I've run the diagnostics, and the issue isn't connecting, but getting a SECURE connection. I'm getting this error message: Posted Image. There are instructions to fix it at Apple's website, which I've followed to the dot, but it isn't making any difference. Apparently an SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0 needs to be enabled...but I've checked over and over, and both ARE enabled on my computer. I still keep receiving the error message.

I even tried installing the new iTunes (version 8), since their help site said it was version 7 that was having problems. Didn't help at all.

The problem only just started maybe a week or two ago. Before then, I had no problem making purchases. The only thing I can think of that's changed since then is that my school network has switched over to a client program called Odyssey Client. Some of the network settings I'm sure are being controlled by an outside administrator, but I should be able to enable iTunes on my own computer, right?

Help! I'm desperate to buy more music!

I am having the same problem and I've tried everything Apple suggests. I have CA firewall and it is disabled.

Error: iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the Internet. Make sure you internet connection is active and try again.

I have Windows XP, iTunes 8.01.11

Any suggestions?

Hi Jiff,
I seem to be having the same type of problem with my iTunes. When I try to open up the iTunes Store and the Genius application I get a message that says, "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The Network connection has timed out." I'm working from a Windows Vista with Norton but I can't open the Norton program to change my firewall. I've clicked OPEN and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR but neither actually opens the program. Do you think you can help me?
