Hi Lads i am new to this forum, and have in the last month purchased an acer 64 bit Acer ferrari 4000 series laptop with windows Xp

Forms the start i have had problems with the computer as it kept hanging, which would be resolved by restarting the computer.

inspite of sending it back to the manufacture the problem still persists

on restarting the computer windows starts a file check for consistency.

also on many an ocassion it wont recognize my external hard drive and yet at sometimes it dose.

any help will be apreciated

thanks
Ben

Hi radicalben...

You say the drive is being checked for consistency when you start the machine. Does this happen every time you startup?

Click Start, then Run, type cmd, and click "Ok". At the prompt in the command window that opens, type fsutil dirty query c: and press "Enter".

Does this query show the drive as "Dirty"?

Hi wannabe followed your instruction to the T, the drive came up as clean. the computer still hangs i.e. the screens go completely blank, but the power light remains on. this is remedied by pressing down on the power switch to switch the computer off and restarting it.
