on another site the question was asked how often do you defrag the pc - the majority said yearly as if you do it too often you can corrupt the hard drive. how true is this ? I do mine on average every two weeks.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

People who defrag yearly don't do much with their computer. I defrag every couple of weeks. I usually check on total volume fragmentation and will defrag when its over 10%. Been doing this for years on all my computers and never had any go bad from doing this. You know you can open a report window thats in the analyze window to see how much fragmentation you have. I download so many drivers for other computers, along with manuals, PDF files, and other software that i have to constantly defrag to clean up the deleted space from the files i've moved off the drive. I also empty the temp folders and defrag just before i install any software on a computer. That way most of the files are in one place on the drive.

Most often the HHD iz the bottleneck in performance. Its really important to take out the trash once in a while and fragmentation - its a cancer that spreads into the performance of other components as well. If ur drivez taking ages to seek files, everythingz gonna slowdown.
