I am totally lost. I feel like I have tried everything in the past few days to remove the viruses from my computer and it isn't working. I have done Panda, McAfee, SpywareBlaster, Spybot, Ad-Aware, A-2 Squared, AVG Anti-Spyware and another I can't remember. Some pick up the problems - others do not - and I can't clean them out. As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting, but continue with the fix.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions! (Click the Options drop down near the upper right of the topic. Select Print this topic.)

You have quite a mixture of malware and Trojans including the dreaded Virtumonde (Vundo ) and LOP infections. Let’s see what we can do, I will deal with Vundo first.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log, from normal mode, in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If Vundofix does not find and delete the files, please try running it bit differently:

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
You will receive a message saying Vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK.
When VundoFix re-opens, click Scan for Vundo button.
Once the scan is complete, right-click inside the listbox (white box) and click Add more files?
Copy & paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes:
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\inibmax.dll
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\xambini.*
Click Add Files and click Close Window.
Click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a fresh HiJackThis log, from normal mode.

Hi Phil and thank you for responding! I ran the Vundofix. It came up with nothing, I added in the entries you said and it wouldn't remove the inibmax.dll, I rebooted and it removed it. Here is the Vundofix text:

Hello again

Vundo is dead, now to deal with the nasty LOP infection in this fix and I'll sort the rest out afterwards.

Please Download NoLop to your desktop from one of the links below...

First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
Double click NoLop.exe to run it
Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
<<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>
When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log from normal mode.

--If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to your system32 folder then rerun the program.

Also, Now I don't have a homepage at all. It says "can't find server" and I can't get into some of my sites/boards due to password issues. I don't get this! How does this happen!

Hello again

The two infections are no more, so we can sort out the rest with this fix hopefully.

To start please download the following programmes, we will run them later. Please save them to a place that you will remember, I suggest the Desktop:

Killbox by Option^Explicit
CCleaner
combofix.exe

Please open, and update AVG Anti Spyware

Load AVGas and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Please select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Deselect "Only if threats were found"
Close AVGas. Do not run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

Safe Mode

In Safe Mode, load AVGas and click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be patient.
AVGas will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVGas will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (I suggest the Desktop).
Please ensure you post that log in your reply.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Now we must hide the files we revealed earlier by reversing the process, this is an important safeguard to stop important system files being deleted by accident.

There is almost certainly bound to be some junk (leftover bits and pieces) on your system that is doing nothing but taking up space. I would recommend that you run CCleaner. Install it, check the default setting in the left-hand pane, ensure you uncheck old prefetch data found under the Windows tab, and under the heading of Applications, Utilities uncheck AVGas Anti-Spyware then click Analyze> Run Cleaner. You may be fairly surprised by how much it finds. Also click Issues then Scan for issues – fix selected issues

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

When it has finished, it will produce a log. Please post that log in your next reply.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Post back a fresh HijackThis log (from normal mode) and I will take another look. (3 logs in total please).

Hello again

I can't understand why a file will not delete, because it is in use, if you are in safe mode. 04 entries do not load so it can't be in use. Something is definitely not right there.

Your HJT log is clean, but we still have malware that won't go, to get rid of.

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

O4 - Global Startup: VTAgentReboot.exe
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://207.188.7.150...ip/RdxIE601.cab

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Please delete the following:

VTAgentReboot.exe (if you cant delete it, please give me the path and I will delete it with an automatic programme.)

Reboot normally

Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.

Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

Copy ALL THE TEXT contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bags Way Move Soft\

Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:

It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
Upon reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

5. Please copy & paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log from normal mode, by using Add Reply

Phil,

I ran HJT and it wouldn't delete the VTAgentReboot.exe. It said "Unable to delete the file: 04-Global Startup: VTAgentReboot.exe. The file may be in use. Use Task Manager to shutdown the program and run HJT again."

Then when I was rebooting into safe mode an error window opened. It went off fast so the only thing I saw was "Runtime Error!" When I searched for the VTAgentReboot file in safe mode I got 9 hits.
They are as follows:
C:\Doctuments and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\backups (7 times)

I didn't do anything with then because I wasn't sure if I should delete them all or what. I'm a little overwhelmed with all of this. I have never had such problems with my computer before and I am not so computer literate. I don't want to mess anything up, so I just wanted to check with you first. What should I do? Should I go back into Safe Mode, search for the file and delete all of them?

That is as far as I went for now. Please let me know and thank you again for your help.

I hate to type this but HJT won't delete the 04-Global Startup (etc.). I ran the Avenger program and then HJT and the same prompt "Unable to delete the file (etc.)" popped up.

Hello again

How very weird. Do you have a programme called GoBack installed?

Let's tackle this slightly differently.

Click on the Start button then Run. Type "MSCONFIG" no quotes
click on the startup tab and scroll down to "VTAGENTREBOOT" (if found) then remove the tick next to it and click apply

Then click on the Start button, onto all programs look for startup folder and delete it if it is found there.

Also, go to Start and then run and type Win.ini and click 'OK'.
Your Win.ini will now open in Notepad. Please paste it into this thread.

Reboot normally

Scan with HJT and post a fresh log.

How's the PC running now?

I don't have a program called GoBack, as far as I know.

I did what you said and I will post the logs. When I rebooted the computer a warning came up.
"System Configuration Utility - You have used the SCU to make changes to the way Windowns starts - The SCU is currently in Diagnostic or Selective startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run everytime Windows starts - Choose the normal startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes."

Should I just check the box to not show message again and leave startup as we have changed it?

Should I just check the box to not show message again and leave startup as we have changed it?

Yes, please do. That in effect disables it so it is no longer active.

Since it is no longer in use, you should be able to delete it.

Let me know what happens.

I ran a new HJT and it doesn't even come up anymore. My reboot is much faster. I was wondering for a while why it would take ten mintues to bootup my computer. Is there anything else I should be deleting?
