It wont read my xp cd-rom

Hi I need to reinstall windows xp
but my cd-rom drive wont read my cd it comes up with the message:



D:\ is not accessible
The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable



I have tried the same cd in my laptop and it works fine
Device manager tells me the device is working properly ,I reinstalled the driver and it still doesnt read my cd-rom? :blink:

Does anybody have a solution ? :whistling:

Hi there.

Did you go into the BIOS and made sure your BIOS reads the CD-R first? We need this to happen so it will boot right from the CD-R.

Maybe its a bad CD-R.

Is this a desktop?

Maybe the CD lens is dirty.
Is it possible to try another cd and see if it works?

Does the CD-R read any other cds like music cds?

Ut oh! It looks like we have a bad cd-drive if it will not read anything.. this is not good.

Is it possible to try and replace it?

How old is the PC?

the pc itself is from 2002 ( i think)

if so is there anyway of reinstalling windows xp over a network or anything like this?

yea but i only have 2 floppy disc's and i tried that already it said it coulnt format them

Okie dokie.

Considering the pc that old, thats probably why the CD-R has died.
How long has it been doing this?

also, try to get some formatted floppies from a friend or from the store..they are very inexpensive so we can make bootable floppies.

my cd-rom drive has been acting like this for about a year now but I have always managed to install stuff through my network so i never really though about getting a new one.

I will see if a can find some floppy discs
