Whenever I try running cmd.exe I get this error... program failed to initialize properly(0xc0000142).
I also get the same problem when I try to install a patch for a game, im sure theres more things I can do to trigger this error I havent come across yet.. ive been searching for hours for a fix, but no luck so far

0xC0000142: DLL Initialization Failure
Its instances all appear to indicate that an application failed to initialize properly. Usually this is traceable to a DLL initialization failure.

It may be here.

You need to look in your event viewer to see where this error is coming from.

alright i tried to look at the event viewer, and an error popped up when i clicked applications : Unable to complete the operation on "Application". The inferface is unknown.

I think you have more of a problem than that. I would think about doing a repair install using a regular XP cd. Something is quite borked in your system.
