Verify that the UPnP Host service is running on the Windows XP-based computer. This service is required to host UPnP certified devices on the system. To determine the status of the UPnP Host service on the computer, follow these steps:a. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
b. Scroll down the list of services until you find UPnP Host.
c. If the status of this service does not appear as Started, right-click the service, and then click Start
Thanks for the prompt reply, I have tried this but I can't start the upnp service because it's not listed!!
If the Xbox 360 and the computer are connected to a router, make sure that the computer is not running Internet Connection Sharing. To do this, follow these steps:a. Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl, and then click OK
b. Right-click the broadband connection (normally called “Local Area Connection”), and then select Properties.
c. In the Properties window that opens, on the Advanced tab, click to clear the Allow other users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection check box.
I have tried this but when i click on the advanced tab, the only option I get is for windows firewall

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, you need the XP CD
Windows File Protection will show an on screen blue progress bar which will simply disappear when the scan is complete, reboot when it does
If you do not have an XP CD you can borrow a same version as was originally installed XP CD, if you downloaded SP2 then you need an SP1 XP CD
Check services

SUMMARY
Microsoft Windows XP updates are distributed in service packs. Service packs help keep Windows XP current, and extend and update the functionality of your computer. Service packs are cumulative. Each new service pack contains all the fixes that are included with earlier service packs and any new fixes. You do not have to install an earlier version of a service pack before you install the latest version.
For example, if you have already installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you do not have to install Windows XP Service Pack 1a (SP1a)
