Shared folders disappear

Hey everyone. I have had some difficulty sharing my files over my home network. Sometimes, folders that I have set to share from my desktop pc, will not show up in My Network Places on my laptop. The "My Documents" folder that I'm sharing from my desktop pc will show up fine, and then, all of a sudden one day cease to show up anymore on my laptop. This is very frusterating. Sometimes unsharing the folder and resharing will make it show up again. This time though, it will not come back. Does anyone know why this has been happening? Thank you.

(I am using Windows XP home edition)
