IE Processes not closing

Greetings,

I'm using IE 6 with Windows XP Pro. I've noticed that after using IE to browse the internet and closing the window, if I look at the processes in the Windows Task Manager, not only is a process still running for each window I had open, but they're still using a bunch of memory.

NONE of them close when I close the IE window.

I've scanned for viruses and spy ware and am supposedly clean.

Does anyone know if this is just the way IE works, or do you think there is a problem on my PC --and if so, a solution?

Many Thanks.
