hi friends,
please help me out from this virus which comes into picture when i open IE and it starts aupr.exe and when i stop my IE there always opens an IE window with name http://advnt05.com/popsend.asp? id=31551 - Microsoft Internet Explorer it makes my system d*** slow.

Firstly i would like you to carry out a free online virus scan from the link below.

Next please download the following two programs. Install them and update them both. Then run each one and have them fix anything that they may find.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3

Ad-aware S E 1.5

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.

Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes if found:

C:\Programme\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system32\l?gonui.exe
C:\Programme\Yahoo!\Messenger\YPager.exe
Exit the Task Manager when finished.

Open up HJT and rescan and Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake. Some of them might not be there as they will have been removed in previous stages of the sequence. This is normal so do not be alarmed

Once you have decided on the above entry, make sure that there are no open windows except HJT and click on FIX CHECKED.

Next reboot your PC into SAFE MODE by tapping on the F8 key whilst it restarts.
Select SAFE MODE.

Set up your PC to show hidden files. Click link below if you do not know how to do this.

Show hidden files

Using Windows Explorer locate and delete the following folders/files if found.

C:\Programme\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system32\l?gonui.exe
C:\Programme\Yahoo!\Messenger\YPager.exe
C:\NAV_Update.exe

Reboot your PC normally, run the following program to cleanup temps etc.

Cleanup

Reverse the show hidden files process to hide them again.

Rescan your PC with HJT and post the log back in this thread.

Hi Hash,

Open up Task manager and if IEXPLORER.EXE is running end task.

Rescan with HJT.

Ensure no windows are open and fix checked.

Set up your PC to show hidden files.

Using Windows Explorer find the following folder/file and delete it.

C:\Programme\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box

C:\Programme\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say Yes.

Let the system reboot.

Rescan with HJT and post the log in this thread

We still have work to do on your office PC before we can start on the laptop, so we will do that one first.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.

Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

C:\Programme\Yahoo!\Messenger\YPager.exe
C:\Programme\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
Exit the Task Manager when finished.

Carry out a free online virus scan from the following link. You must register your name, for company type anything you wish and enter your email address. Allow it to fix anything it finds

Kaspersky

Rescan with HJT and check the following.

Now use the Cleanup program to clear out temp files, junk etc.

Hi Hash,

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean.

We'll now start on your Laptop in the other thread, so i'll work on my reply to you and post it as soon as possible.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:

How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

Prevention Programs:

Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

Other necessary Programs:

AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
