P.S. I thought about salvaging a front-end unit from another case, but I can't find anyone with a case they want to dispose of that has it on there.

Front audio and front USB interfaces are generally made up on the fly to fit in with the case. There's no such thing as "standard front panel USB/Audio/Firewire" as every case is different and therefore the housing (which can be either standalone or as part of a "unit") are unique to each case.
Therefore short of either buying a front-panel 3.5"/5.25" bay, a new case or begging/borrowing some from somewhere, you're out of luck.

Some things to think about.

And where to get this stuff.

Heres one that the cables look long enough.

I have had to deal with this quite often as i take old cases and install new motherboards and hardware. many of these old cases are quite nice but they have no front USB ports. Often i have stripped out the front usb from cases that have them and are to be scrapped. I have actually sat at a auction stripping out cases the other people bid on and don't want so are going to leave them behind.

OK, I had an idea, If I knock out that puch-out piece on the faceplate like I explained before, then drilled a couple of holes, and bought one of the rear-mounting set ups, and modified it with a couple holes and mounted it to the faceplate with screws or screw and nut set-ups, you think that would work?
Never mind, I see now on one of the links you posted that the bracket can be removes, that would definately relinquish some of the hassle from me on the issue.

If your case has an extra floppy drive bay and you can find a suitable cable with connectors you may be able to adopt it.
