Welcome watersa8
Start by testing your memory. Memtest86 is a free memory testing program that loads from a bootable floppy:

Thanks i think that the problem is with the memory.
I couldnt get the memtest86 to work becasue i arnt currently running Linux. So i used the windows memory testing function and it found errors with every test i left it to do about 5000 checks and it only ogt about 7 back correct. I have mandrake 10.0 on disk and ill install it and then set up the memtest86 anyway because from what i can gather its a better tool.
Would the best vourse be to just replace my ram now?

Yes.Would the best course be to just replace my ram now?
If you have more than one stick of RAM, check them one at a time. You'll probably just need to replace one.

Can you give us some details about your system?
This isn't a problem with most systems, but some dual channel motherboards perform best when memory is paired.
