Hi.
Yesterday, I turn on my computer, and get a prompt that my Windows XP is not genuine, and I have an icon in my task bar. I follow the link, it takes me to Microsoft, yet says that it cannot complete validation due to an error. Without validation, it will not allow me to disable it or change any of the settings.
Someone please help. I found a previous post, that suggested to run SERVICES.MSC, and check the messenger settings, which were fine.

Thanks so much

It just redirects me to a "Validation incomplete" with a list of reasons, all of which I have checked out.
No, it does not say to call Microsoft unless I would go to the "contact us" link

OK....
Can you give me a bit more detailed instruction, or will the link provide them?

You can also open My Documents, click help, click is this copy legal

See what Microsoft say as some legal copies are being flagged as non genuine

OK, it appears fixed. Going to the link, it finally allowed me to download the ActiveX control, and then it ran. Miraculously, it is now validated, and I can disable the notification.

Thanks to all.

It was likely to be an error because validation would have picked it up before now

Thank You for letting us know
