OK, I downloaded it, but when I open the file it asks me where I want to extract it-I just said desktop, but nothing happened! Some error thing came up saying something like C:/Documents bla etc etc, is not supported by something or something...

Did you download version 3.8.252?
Have you tried extracting to somewhere else?

Sounds like the file didn't download correctly because i've downloaded the file and was able to extract everything.

Download the file and then extract it to a folder in the root of drive c.

Ah okay, well it installed, and it all as well again-but now there's a new problem...

The game will play, but when I go to drag in an item, it freezes (at one point the screen even went blurry/lines/stripy whatever) and the game stops-the sim mouse and music are still there, but the background of the screen is just black, if that makes sense. It doesn't stop either.

???

Sounds like the game crashed. Using an unsupported graphics card like the one you have can cause unexpected problems like game crashes, graphics corruption amongst other things. It was worth trying to get the game to work but I think it's time we faced the fact that the PC just might not be able to run the game.
