My awesome room mate was cruisin for porn, I am assuming, and my computer was infiltrated by the fine upstanding folks at "yoursearcher.com". I know my way around a computer from being on one for ten years but none of my tricks are working. Could you suggest a way to get rid of this java script (I believe) in simple terms so a computer literate person that isn't so technically inclined could do it?

One thing I found strange is that they post a fix for this problem on the very site that is causing me the headaches and I reluctantly tried it and it worked for all of ten minutes so I am wonderring if I have done more harm to my comp in trying their fix since it didn't do anything to fix the problem.

I am also wonerring if this script could be blocking my ability to restore my XP as I can't restore at all. I initially thought this would be an easy way to get rid of it but have had no luck.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome varga2k :D

Looks like a CoolWebSearch hijack. Download CWShredder to your desktop or other location. Close all browser windows, double click the CWShredder icon to run, then click the Fix -> button.

When finished, reboot.

You'll probably have a few items remaining. Next, let's take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

One thing I found strange is that they post a fix for this problem on the very site that is causing me the headaches and I reluctantly tried it and it worked for all of ten minutes so I am wonderring if I have done more harm to my comp in trying their fix since it didn't do anything to fix the problem.

One reason we rarely recommend the fix supplied by the publisher. :D

I am also wonerring if this script could be blocking my ability to restore my XP

Yes, it sure can. <_<

Thanks for the help.
The CW Shredder didn't find anything but I will run the hijack this software and see what I come up with.

While I am here I also noticed that I have a program in my "Add/Remove" list called "New Net Domains".
I see there is a hijack listing under the name "New net" in my log and was wondering if this is also something I should get rid of?

First uninstall New Net Domains, and P2P Networking from your add/remove programs.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked (if found).

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEengine.exe
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://yoursearcher.com/sp.htm

Delete the following file in bold:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEengine.exe <- this file

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log. <_<

Here is my new log and since my homepage came up blank this time; I think this may have done it! I know I have thanked you to end but I am really impressed with the fact that you would provide such a good service. If I come accross any spare cash I would be happy to donate and this is the first time I have ever really felt compelled to do so for a webpage! HA HA!

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_< You can save a new homepage. :D

How's your system working? If everything seems to be working okay you can delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks.

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.
Link to SpywareBlaster: http://www.geekstogo...tion=show&id=12

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.
