I had to reinstall XP pro sp2 and am having problems--maybe related.

When I try to access the windows update site at microsoft, IE6 hangs and I have to ctl-alt-del to close it. I am unable to set automatic updates in the security center, it tells me to try and set updates through the systems tab. If I do that I get one of the two following error messages:

An exception occured while trying to run
1. "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL"C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysdm.cpl",System" or
2. Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem

Also, in checking the error event log, I came across these errors:

I hope these are related and can be fixed easily. I have searched for possible fixes and can't seem to find any. I have run virus scans (AVG, AdAware, SpyBOT) with no problems. HiJack This shows no abnormal items.
