I know that this is probably posted somewhere else within the forum, but I would like a list of the must-have programs for your computer that make it run faster, start faster, keep it free of malware and viruses, etc. I would like one list to be all free programs and the other list to be paid programs. I want the best ones available as I don't want to spend money on ones that are no top-of-the-line. The free versions list is just to satisfy my curiosity and compare to what I have. Thank you.

These are what I use with no complaints:

AV & Firewall combined - ZoneAlarm Security Suite (not free):
http:\\www.zonelabs.com

Windows Registry cleaning (fewer program errors):
Regsupreme (not free): http://www.macecraft.com/

Instant cleanup of space-wasting files: 'Ccleaner' (free):
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Spyware blocking for IE & Firefox - SpywareBlaster (free);
http://www.javacools...areblaster.html

Disk Defragmenter - built in to Windows. Use it regularly. A fragmented disk will slow down your PC. The longer it's left, the slower it will get.

I don't have a list for you, however, I would like to point out that many of the Staff/Admins/Malware Experts/Geeks or Techs in Training will usually post helpful links inside their signatures, which can be seen just underneath their messages. You'll see a library of links underneath my signature, as well as Keith's. Some of these links probably weren't on the list, but you'll find good applications this way.
