Windows 2000 Serial, can i also use it for XP?

Hello all,
i have a IBM Laptop and on the the bottom i have a genuine Windows 2000 Serial..

But can i also use that serial for my XP? or not? :blink:

please let me know, thanks :help:! :whistling:

Are you talking about the Windows 2000 CD Key? No, the CD key is specific to the product listed on the key. When you purchased Windows XP, there should have been a CD key with it.

That key is for that system. Technically, Microsoft will not allow you to even use that Windows 2000 Product ID on any other system other than the one it came with.

Since that system has a Product Key attached to it, that's the system it belongs to.

Same goes for XP.

To answer the question, Like LindaGail said, thats a big no. Won't work.
If you have XP legitimately you would already have a Product Key. If you lost it you will need to contact Microsoft.
