Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger [resolved]

I need help getting rid of Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger like many others I have seen on here. When I go to open My Computer, the control panel or my documents I get a wait icon, the computer flashes and everything on the desktop disappears then reappears and acts like I never did anything. If I try this a second time I get the infamous Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close asking if I want to send a report or not. I have completed all the steps as directed in the You must read this before posting a hijackthis log and enclosed my HiJack this log and hope that someone will come to my rescue. Thanks for your time and attention in this matter.

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

1. If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware installed, during the installation of the new version you will be prompted to uninstall or keep the older version - be sure to uninstall the previous version.
2. After installing Ad-aware, you will be prompted to update the program and run a full scan. De-select all boxes so that it does not run.
3. Manually run "Ad-Aware SE Personal" and from the main screen Click on "Check for Updates Now".
4. Once the definitions have been updated:
5. Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan as per the following instructions:
* Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.
* Under General Settings the following boxes should all be checked off: (Checked will be indicated by a green circle with a check mark in it, Un-Checked is a red circle with an X in it. If it is greyed out, those features are only available in the retail version.)
o "Automatically save logfile"
o Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"
o Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
o Prompt to update outdated confirmation) - Change to 7 days.
* Click the "Scanning" button (On the left side).
* Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives"
* Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.
* Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
* Click the "Advanced" button (On the left hand side).
* Under "Shell Integration", select "Move deleted files to Recycle Bin".
* Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
* Click on the "Defaults" button on the left.
* Type in the full url of what you want as your default homepage and searchpage e.g. http://www.google.com.
* Click the "Tweak" button (Again, on the left hand side).
* Expand "Scanning Engine" by clicking on the "+" (Plus) symbol and select the following:
o "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
o "Obtain command line of scanned processes"
o "Scan registry for all users instead of current user only"
* Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
o "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion."
o "During removal, unload explorer and IE if necessary"
o "Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot."
o "Delete quarrantined objects after restoring"
* Click on "Safety Settings" and select "Write-protect system files after repair (Hosts file, etc)"
* Click on "Proceed" to save these Preferences.
* Click on the "Scan Now" button on the left.
* Under "Select Scan Mode, be sure to select "Use Custom Scanning Options".
6. Close all programs except ad-aware.
7. Click on "Next" in the bottom right corner to start the scan.
8. Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT - Even if not prompted to.
9. After you log back in, Ad-Aware may run to finalize the scan and remove any locked files that it may of found. Allow it to finish.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

Exit Explorer

Reboot your PC.

Kc,
Thanks for the help thus far. I have done what you requested and cleared the 7 items in HiJackThis but when I went into safe mode I could not find addfq.dll or host32.exe arg1. I had set my system to show all hidden files and tried searching for them a couple of different ways including through windows explorer but they were not there. In fact, there wasn't even a single file in the windows/lstr folder. Anyway, I rebooted anyway and ran the two virus scans and panda found a couple of viruses. I have attached its scan log and my current hijackthis log as well.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Reboot into Safe Mode: Click here if you don't know how to do this.

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

C:\Documents and Settings\Gunnar\Favorites\Sites about\Ab scissor.url<--Delete this from you Favorites folder
C:\WINDOWS\n_fcrqhp.log<--Delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qaatz.dll<--Delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\lstr<--Delete this folder

Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot.
Copy and Paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in where upon you should answer Yes.
Let the system reboot.

Thank you again for helping me out. I know you guys and gals don't get enough of this appreciation and I truly mean it.
I did everything you told me to do in your last reply and the only problem I encountered was that I couldn't find n_fcrqhp.log or host32.exe arg1. Hopefully killbot got them for me. Panda's online virus scan found two more things and I have attached their log as well as the HiJack This log. My computer is working again as well as my control panel and I thank you for helping me out with that problem. Have a great day.

Welcome to geekstogo!

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Use Add remove program files uninsall the following program:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Empty the recycle bin

Reboot your system.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.

Kc,

I have done all the things you asked in the last post and had no problems whatsoever. Panda scan did not find any viruses either. I have attached the HJT log as requested. Once again, thank you for all the help you have given me thus far. I sincerely appreciate it.

Download the Microsoft Antispyware

Download the CCleaner unzip the file to install.
Open CCleaner.
Place a check by everything in the Applications tab.
Place a check by Internet Explorer, Windows explorer, and System in the Windows tab.
Run the ccleaner

Clean out all temp files in Mozilla, Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer: Tools/ Internet Options/ General/ Temporary internet files/ Delete Files (NOTE, that this may take very long!). You can also set the memory limit to about 80 MB at the Settings.

Mozilla: Edit/ Options/ Extended/ Cache/ Clear Cache

Turn of system restore
Disabling or enabling Windows XP System Restore

Defrag your hard drive. Turn system restore back on and create a new restore point.

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use). Click Here

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
