[buster blader]

please help , my situation is getting critical, a while ago my computer started starting up slowly but i ignored it, later it started taking minutes to startup and thats when i started taking actions, i,ve scanned it for malaware virus, Trojans and spyware but there is nothing, even when i reduce the programs that start up in the beginning the problem still exists , someone once told me i had malaware but all the programs i run say i dont, i dont know what else to do, it started crashing and freezing a few days ago and its getting increasingly difficult to use please help, below is my hijack this log

Hi again Buster Blader,

There is nothing showing up in your log. Your computer is free of malware. One thing that could be causing it to slow though is that you have two anti-virus softwares running at the same time. Anti-Virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

You may keep both ClamAV and AVG free, or you may uninstall one of them. Either way, be sure that only ONE of them is actively running! They are both great free products, so whichever one you wish to keep is perfectly fine

If you choose to install more than one Anti-Virus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that run in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an On-Access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as:
Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.

Also, if you wish to keep your PC clean of malware, I STRONGLY recommend that you uninstall utorrent.

Utorrent is a P2P program (short for peer to peer). These programs are not illegal in themselves, but often are used for illegal purposes. Also, since you are connecting directly to another person's computer, you have no idea what you really could be downloading. This is one of the leading causes of infection, and as mentioned earlier, it can be used for illegal purposes.

One other thing that you could to to boost your computers performance is clearing your temporary files regularly. There is a great simple program that can do that for you.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently:

Disk Cleanup:

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click "OK". You will not be bothered by the message again.

Keep in mind that some entries will be re-enabled in the startups each time you use that particular program. Therefore, you will have to find the option in that programs preferences that says something like "Load with Windows" or "Run when Windows Starts" and disable that option.
