i've seen several examples of this on other forums, and the following fix seems to work for most of them. It involves disabling the service for the Windows XP built-in cd-burning feature which can interfere with third-party burning applications:

1. Start->Run. Type SERVICES.MSC and press [ENTER].
2. Scroll down and double-click the entry for 'IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service'
3. Change 'Startup type' to 'Disabled' then click 'Apply'.
4. Click 'Stop' button if it's not greyed out.
5. Click 'OK' to close window.
6. Reboot.
7. Go back into services (step 1) and check 'IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service' is still disabled and it's service status says "Stopped".

Now try using nero again.

Just remember, with that IMAPI cd-burning service set to 'disabled' the built-in cd-burning feature will not work. If you never use it anyway that's not a problem.

There might be something up with the drivers.....
To check your drivers go onto

1- Control pannel
2- Printers and other hardware
3- A little link on the side saying system
4- Then System Properties
5- Click onto the hardware tab
6- Then device manager
7- And if there are any ! / exclamation mark images
then there is something wrong with that driver. But to find these images you have to click on every section and have a look at the drop down menu.
8- Then click onto whatevers got a ! symbol and a window should come up with all the details.... Then click driver then
update driver
9- If it wont let you update the driver then you could use an new programe to burn CDs and DVDs on...
For example Divix... Go onto www.Divix.com or type Divix into the google search engine...
10- Go onto down loads and download the Divix media player item...
11- It shouldnt cost any money....

Hope this helps !
