I can't get my system to not spike. I don't know what to do and it drives me crazy, admittedly a short trip. If the Hijckthis is of service I hope this will speed up the learning curve for me.

Well, I am not sure, I mean it sounds more like a hardware issue then a Malware issue, but you posted a HiJackThis Log, so I thought you knew that it was Malware, and you wanted a Malware member to help you fix it, so I was saying that the HiJackThis Log belongs in the Malware Removal section.

Also if its a hardware issue, we'll need to know your full system specifications so we can diagnose and solve your problem.

To be honest I don't really know, but I'll keep trying to help you. When exactly are you experiencing the lag spikes? Are you playing a game and getting lag spikes, or is it during everyday browsing the net and using the computer?

*Also for future reference, just post the main information about your computer. Like the manufacturer, the memory, processing speed, video card, sound card, etc. Anyways, I do appreciate the effort in you at least trying, :whistling:.

It is during normal operation of the computer. Something called NOPDB.EXE goes nuts and also WUDFHUF.EXE does also. I've tried to stop both of them and that stops things for a while and then they come back.

Any thoughts on that?

These are exe's I am not familiar with, I'd suspect a virus. If you make another post over in the Malware Section (HERE: http://www.geekstogo..._Here-f37.html) and explain your problem, and also say that you have been redirected to there, the guys will help you step by step of how to fix your problem. You will also need that HighJackThis log ready - but only when they ask!

NOPDB.exe is the Norton "Speed Disc" Service. It cannot be stopped without going to "Services" under Administrative Tools. Like the unnecessary "Indexing Service" of XP it runs continuously and is very resource demanding. When I had Norton I disabled this service, and when I wanted to use "Speed Disc" I went back to "Services" and re-enabled Speed Disc Service temporarily. I think that you have perhaps mis-spelled "WUDFHUF.EXE?" I could find no reference. If properly spelled, I concurr with the advice to seek serious anti-malware help.

Your log does, indeed, show signs of infection. Let's let the malware experts deal with this one.

Please go to the Malware Forum and follow the instructions you'll find there.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- post a hijackthis log in THAT forum. Do Not reply to or "bump" your own topic...if it shows a reply, it may be overlooked as one that is being worked on.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.

Thanks to all! I did go to ADMIN and services and disabled speed disk. That did most of the trick. If I get more weird stuff I'll go on to malware and see what I can do. I run Adware and 3 other programs and all have come up clean.
