THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH
My laptop has been down for over two weeks now. I can't tell you how much it will mean to me when it's finally up and running again!

It's no problem at all!
Your actually benefiting me!
Everytime I help somebody, it makes my day and it helps one more person out in the computer society!
When we get this working,
Does the dell laptop have a serial key on the bottom of the laptop?
Was the XP pro cd made for this laptop Or did you buy it separetely.
This worries me because we may need to change the cd key from the xp pro cd to the dell cd product key

Well, you definitely make me very happy
Yes, the Dell has a Serial Key on the bottom and I received the XP pro CD from Dell. It didn't come with the Laptop when I bought it [they usually don't do that], but they sent it to me two weeks ago when I encountered my first problems with the laptop.
So, what does that mean? Is the CD made for the laptop?

Oh, nothing to worry about than
I was just concerned if they were different, but probably no because dell sent you this so it is probably the same product key..
No more worries
I actually got to log off soon so I may not be able to contiune intill tomorrow mid day. Is that alright?

Ok then
Hey, tomorrow mid day sounds great... it's going to take a while for the reformatting and reinstalling Windows XP anyways.... so all is good.
Or do I need to know anything else until then?
Thank you very much.

Well let me give you some instructions before I head off.
When all installed and well. If it wants to activate within 30days, let it do that. If it does not ask you, than go ahead and retrieve the updates.
Retrieve all updates from microsoft's update when you complete that step. Once all the updates are complete, start putting all your data you saved back onto the laptop
Than apply a AV and scanners and stuff so your not open to infection

So I do set up the internet connection first, but then don't do anything before I installed all the updates, correct?

Are you at the setup right now?
If so, skip it when we get to the desktop, than you setup your internet connection.

No it's no problem.
Yeah formatting takes forever.
When you get to the setup screen when it wants to check to see if you have a active internet connection, click skip. When it asks if you want to register with microsoft, say Not at this time.
