Hello...

My brother's computer has a blue screen....that says that "Windows has a problem and has been shut down to prevent damage " then it says UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME...
Then it has a stop error..... 0x000000ED

It does not let me start Windows in any mode...so if you can help me I would really appreciate it...

You wouldn't happen to know what the next number was after 0x000000ED would you? That would really help to narrow this one down.

Do you have, or have access to, an XP installation cd of the same version that is installed on the machine?

The next numbers are (0x8634B9A8,0xC0000006,0x00000000,0x00000000)

I have an xp copy but is not the same version....since they got the computer through dell I think they can get it through them..but I'll check..

Have you tried going online and using Dell's Live Help service? After giving them all the info they wanted about my PC, I was sent the Windows XP install CD. I already had the 5 CDs that were packed with PCs, but manufacturer's seem to like omitting the install CD for the O/S. Restore CDs put all the junk back on your PC just like it was out of the box. That means you lose all your own files and programs installed since.
